Fourth of July in Monte Vista
7/4/2008 -
This year's Monte Vista 4th of July celebration was the largest ever! And was great fun for those who participated. The parade stepped out smartly with the Color Guard from Lackland Civil Air Patrol. This year's Grand Marshal, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus led the parade with his children and his wife Lourdes. An estimated 300 human marchers followed the Grand Marshal. (We are sniffing out details of the canine participants.)
Our beautiful new Landa grounds were full of red-white-and-blue partiers. The Valero Pavilion served as the stage for the short program.
The Color Guard presented the colors; Chief McManus led the Pledge of Allegiance. Judge Barbara Nellermoe led singing of The Star Spangled Banner. Finally MVHA President Rick Noll explained our duty to eat hot dogs and dismissed us with that chore! A City fire truck entertained the young ones. (How many future fire fighters were inspired by that visit?)
Thanks go to organizer Maxine Oesterling, MVHA Chairwoman for the event, along with her many, many helpers. Chris Raba and Jeff Vest donated bottled water, for which many parched throats are very grateful.A big thanks also to MVHA member sponsors:
