2014 Annual Meeting Highlights

The Annual meeting of membership of the Monte Vista Historical Association was held on October 12 at Magnolia Christian Church on West Magnolia Ave. Many thanks to Elder L.B. Williams for the use of the church facilities.
New officers and board members were elected.
The new MVHA Board of Directors is as follows:
Board Members: Paula Bondurant, Jessica Elliott, Andrew Eubanks, Summer Greathouse, Sandra Grove, Dolly Holmes, Trudy Kinnison, Clint Lawson, Laura Labatt, Michele Nievaard, Nellie Shannon, David Smith, Steve Trevino, Diane Warren, Rosanne White, and Bill White.
President Antonio Garcia recapped the Board’s efforts during the last year. Working closely with city entities, MVHA has used its influence to encourage, urge and push for issues that affect our neighborhood. Among those are alley openings, and derelict, unoccupied houses. Committee Chairs described their work and achievements for the year. Wade Caldwell of Code Compliance, discussed deteriorated vacant structures and zoning issues. Clint Lawson of Preservation Investment Committee, described the City’s STAR program, wherein volunteers help with some renovations of selected MV structures. Paul Kinnison discussed ongoing efforts of the Architectural Review Committee. Gerry Frost described the collection of oral histories of long-time MV residents. John Agather talked about Vistas newsletter, and Suzanna Garcia described updates to the website. Tony Garcia discussed city services including an alley update. Guest speaker, Anthony Chukwuldolue of the City’s Transportation and Capital Improvements division, spoke on about Capital Improvements in Monte Vista.
