124 East Magnolia Avenue
Built in 1913 in the Greek Revival style, the exterior columns are original to the house. Before the current owners acquired the house, it had been converted from the original single-family dwelling to seven apartments. They restored the home to its original beauty, and in the process, won an award from the San Antonio Conservation Society in 2000. In one humorous incident, the owner, in a fit of pique and frustration, took a hammer to the unexceptional living-room mantle. In doing so, she discovered the beautiful, original mill-worked mantle, which was hidden beneath many layers of paint and putty. They had the mantle professionally restored and returned it to its rightful place surrounding the fireplace.
