120 West Magnolia Avenue

120 West Magnolia Avenue

Built in 1906, this four-square style, popular from about 1900 through the 1920’s, is a simple, two-story box shape, with a four-room floor plan. This plan provides roomy interiors for homes on small city blocks.

When the owners purchased their home in 2006, it had been stripped of most of its historic details. The downstairs hardwood floors had been replaced with tile; the double-hung, wooden sash windows had been replaced with aluminum; all baseboards, molding, and doorknobs had been removed; and back porch had been demolished.

The current owners lovingly restored their home and replaced many historic features. They salvaged a number of old architectural items from houses that were scheduled to be demolished, including the 1895 front door with transom and sidelights, front porch columns and capitals, oak hardwood floors and wainscoting.
