227 West Woodlawn Avenue
In 1909 the Laurel Heights founding fathers planned a building that would be “worthy of its surroundings and have such beauty that no other church could equal it.” It was completed and dedicated on Easter Sunday, 1912. Atlee B. Ayers, Architect of the church, chose a variation of the English Gothic style, using grey brick, elaborately trimmed with Cedar Park stone, and a gray slate roof. The loggia sheltered the double-hung wooden windows from hot southern exposure and provided cross ventilation. The beautiful, distinctive stained glass windows are original: their intense colors contrast with the dark stained woodwork of the sanctuary interior.
