Monte Vista Celebrates 4th of July
4th of July Parade & Picnic Fun!
The Monte Vista Historical Association is big on tradition and one of the best is our 4th of July Parade and Picnic. We started a little earlier this year in an effort to beat the heat. Grand Marshals, Ann Van Pelt and Jill Torbert, both past presidents of MVHA were driven by their husbands in a lipstick red classic convertible! Kids on trikes, bikes and scooters along with their parents, neighbors and even one handsome gentleman with a cane made the easy stroll from the corner of Lynwood and Howard over to the Landa Library.
Chris Berry did a great job as our Master of Ceremonies. The national anthem was performed by a wonderful group from SAC using sign language. It was very moving and we are grateful to this group for taking the time to share this special skill with us.
The prizes were many from best costumes, cutest dogs and best pie! Congratulations to all the winners! Thanks to Lily's Cookies for providing yummy prizes.
Thanks also to Karen with the Landa Library who came in on her day off to entertain the children with a bit of story telling.
We are so grateful to the Landa Gardens Conservancy for all the work they do to keep the beautiful grounds maintained. This is one of the features that makes the Landa Library one of the most unique and visited libraries in San Antonio.
It takes an army of volunteers from MVHA starting very early on July 4th to set up and then tear down in the heat of the day along with all the other duties of serving hot dogs, lemonade, desserts, helping members renew their membership and keeping everyone having a great time. Thanks to all who helped make this event another great success!
